The Route

Here is our anticipated route for RT12: a loop through the South starting and ending in New Orleans.  We'll immediately head north along the Mississippi River after arriving in NOLA.  We'll hit the Natchez Trace for a bit, and then head east through Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia all the way to the Atlantic Coast.  After a few days in Savannah and Charleston, we'll head south down the coast to Amelia Island, Florida, and then back to NOLA along the Gulf Coast.  We'll probably hug the Florida gulf coast more than what shown here.

  1. In New Orleans make sure to eat at Couchon (if you like meat). In Jackson eat at Parlor Market and the Mayflower. The Nachez Trace between New Orleans and Jackson has a lot of cool stuff. Stop by Port Gibson on the Trace. It's the only town that Grant didn't burn when he came through Mississippi.

    1. I think you're the 3rd person to recommend Couchon. Will definitely check it out. We head to Natchez tomorrow - looking forward to it!

  2. Ken, I have been doing some foodie research for you and came across these two places you should try. In New Orleans, try Mahony's Po-Boy and in Memphia try Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. My mom says you should try this FAB french restaurant in Fernadine Beach called le clos. You will need a resi. Safe travels!!!
